In Microsoft Excel for Mac 2011 (14.0.0) how can I modify the enter/return key to edit in cell instead of moving the selection down? I know that in Preferences > Edit you can uncheck the box that says 'After pressing RETURN, move selection [Down/Right/Up/Left]' which at least makes it a little less annoying, but this behaviour is still not. (Pictures taken from mix of Windows and Mac versions where possible.) Select Manage Rules. From the Conditional Formatting menu. Click the New Rule. Select Use a formula to determine which cells to format, enter the formula as shown below, and then click the Format. Button to choose your conditional format (blue text with no fill).

- Apply Formula to a Range of Cells without Drag and Drop 7 answers
Does anybody know the keyboard shortcuts or menu commands to fill a formula down without dragging? I'm using Excel for Mac 2011 on a MacBook.
I've got a spreadsheet like this pattern but for like 5000 rows:
I know how to hover over D1 and get the handle and drag down, but there must be an easier way.
There are a billion tips online but I'm not finding any that work.
FWIW, Macbook has some exceptions to shortcut key rules, so that's probably why, I guess.
But anyhow, anyone know how to do this?
PS: I would have thought 'fill series' would be a choice but no. Here's a picture.

Double click the box on the bottom right of the cell with the formula, as shown in your screenshot. It will fill the formula until it finds a blank row.

On a PC this is Alt+O,C,A, as explained here.
Is there an equivalent keyboard shortcut in Excel for Mac, to fit the column width to the width of the text?

Although Microsoft did not include many keyboard shortcuts in their Office Suite for Mac, you can make your own for any app including Office apps. To do so:
- Go to System Preferences and then Keyboard.
- Select the shortcuts tab.
- You can add any shortcut there either system-wide for any application or application specific by clicking the Plus button +, selecting Excel and recording your key combination.
In this case you must type in
AutoFit Selection
just as it appears on the menu in Excel. (Format > Column > AutoFit Selection)You can choose any key combination that suits your fancy.

Sorry if may sound slightly off the topic, but for ease,
- Cmd ⌘ + A
- Double click (mouse) on any column divider on top
This gives autofit column width of an active worksheet. To avoid any potential overlapping shortcuts.
